The newly-formed Southside Philharmonic Orchestra, in collaboration with the Bach Community Chorale, an ensemble of outstanding singers from Columbia and surrounding areas, will present the J.S. Bach Mass in B minor at the Central United Church of Christ (118 W. Ashley Street) on April 21st at 7:30 pm.
The Mass in B minor was begun as early as 1714 and completed within one year of J.S. Bach’s death in 1750 and stood in Bach’s own estimation as a compendium of his greatest work in vocal composition. The Mass brims with Bach’s deepest spiritual convictions and is not often performed because of its sheer scale. The concert will be performed in the beautiful sanctuary of Central United Church of Christ in the historic Southside/Old Munichburg neighborhood of Jefferson City. The orchestra and chorus feature the finest classical musicians in Jefferson City and Columbia and is directed by Dr. Patrick Clark and Christine Jarquio Nichols. Please join us for an evening of awe-inspiring and moving music. The Southside Philharmonic is an Arts Outreach of Central United Church of Christ. Tickets can be purchased online at SPOJCtickets.eventbrite.com or at the door.
